Fashion trends 2021: fishing nets.
Make sure you know the 2021 trends. Surely many of you,
like me, found it crazy when we saw the classic
tights and fishnet tops appear on the great catwalks all
over the world , classics from certain very periods. important in the
history of fashion.
Despite the fact that in the 2000s they became popular
again, the birth of the fishnet stockings dates back to the crazy 1920s,
representing a great transgression in countries such as the United States and
Paris.
Years later, they were a very characteristic symbol of
the punk movement of the 70s and, later, of the grunge subculture of the 90s.
At that time the garments were tied with rebellious nets,
but they have reappeared, with a total facelift and great versatility.
Star garments of the fishnet trend
We saw them again in stockings and socks in the
Spring-Summer 2017 season, but new garments also appeared that were associated
with fishing nets , dresses, or
rather on dresses, made in different fabrics, such as crochet, which made this
trend also linked to the boho style, leaving aside rebellion and offering a
more romantic vision of fashion.
Currently, we can see these nets again as a tunic of
different styles and sizes, not only in terms of cut, since we can find from
models at the height of the hip, with or without sleeves, to full tunics, even
feet and long sleeves. But there are also a multitude of options in terms
of the breadth of the network, with gaps of greater or lesser size.
This kind of
"dresses" are ideal for summer , since you can
wear them over any look, without getting too hot, adding a transgressive touch
to any look.
Different ways to wear fishnet garments in your looks
On the walkways this season we have seen multiple options
in terms of fishing net garments and their combination. They can be simply
a detail of some pieces, such as the sleeves or part of them or become the main the garment of a look.
In addition, it offers great versatility in terms of
styles, since it can be used on various occasions, for carefree plans or even
to go to work. The key that defines the right time and place for this look
is footwear.
We can wear a beautiful crochet dress over a basic t-shirt and
denim shorts with sneakers for an afternoon-evening outing in summer, or over a
plain dress with sandals for a more sophisticated date. It is also an
essential garment for a beach look, where you should only wear your favorite
bikini or swimsuit underneath, accompanied by flip-flops.
Would you dare to wear this latest combination to a
summer music festival? We can't wait for them to come back, so take note
for the future.
The flip side of the trendy fishing nets trend
But when we talk about the trend of fishing nets in
fashion, another novel situation also comes to mind, the use of waste of this
material as filaments for making garments.
Still did not know about the existence of this type of
activity?
Well, it is one of the actions of fashion focused on the
new paradigm based on sustainability , since it helps,
not only with the recycling and reuse of waste, but many companies and
associations have launched initiatives to collect fishing nets abandoned at
sea. , thus helping the removal of plastic waste from the oceans.
Do you want to know some of the movements and brands that
have joined this incredible trend?
It is worth highlighting the Spanish brand Ecoalf, a pioneer in
ecological fashion in our country, which in association with EKOREC began to
investigate to create a project that would transform fishing nets into
polyamide for later use as thread. At the end of 2016, the “Upcycling The
Oceans” project was born, aimed at cleaning the oceans with the help of
fishermen to later use plastics as fabrics.
A year before, “ Redcycle ” had
been born , an initiative developed by the company specialized in mountain
clothing, Ternua, and the Italian company Aquafil, with the collaboration of
the Guipúzcoa fishermen's association and the support of the Basque
Government. They managed to create, using fishing net waste and other
nylon waste, a thread named Econyl.
In 2019, the European Union and the Technological
Institute of Plastics started the project " Oceanets " with which
they sought to prevent the loss of fishing nets at sea and helping to make the
recovery of those that were abandoned easier, to later convert them in textile
products.
Other brands that have joined this type of action so
beneficial to the environment have been the French brand Hopaal , which uses used
clothing, fabric scraps and
plastic bottles to make garments. In addition, it joined the Spanish
brand Seaqual to launch a
collection of swimwear totally made from marine debris, achieving not only a
great positive effect in terms of recycling and reuse, but also making pieces
such as bikinis and swimsuits have a longer useful life, since the fabrics that
are usually used for their manufacture tend to wear out more easily in contact
with saltpeter, chlorine in swimming pools and exposure to the sun.
The Humble brand reuses
fishing nets to create sportswear, comfortable, breathable and with protection
against UV rays.
Once again, the future of fashion seems to be closer and
closer, thanks to small companies that, little by little, are moving towards a
new sustainable paradigm based on Slow Fashion, recycling and the reuse of
materials by leaps and bounds.
We hope that more and more brands and firms will join in
this type of initiative.
